Como teñir con remolachas
How to dye with beetroot
Luego de haber intentado varias veces teñir con remolacha con la clasica receta que se lee en la web y no haber logrado resultados
positivos decidí crear mi propia receta.
Para esto he utilizado los mordientes directamente: el vinagre y la sal gruesa, ambos en buena cantidad.
Es aconsejable manipular el vellón lo menos posible para evitar que se encoja.
After several negative dyeing with beetroot tests I decided to create my own recipe.
For this I used mordants directly: vinegar and coarse salt, both in generous quantity.
My advise is to manipulate the felt as little as possible to prevent it of shrink.
Materiales Necesarios
-remolachas, cuanta má cantidad más fuerte el color.
-vinagre de alcohol
-fieltro natural
-sal gruesa
-cacerola para hornalla
-bowl
-colador
-cuchara de madera
Materials
-beetroots, as more quantity more intense colors results
-alchool vinegar
-natural wool fleece
-coarse salt
-heat pot
-bowl
-sieve
-wooden spoon
1) Dispensar las hojas.
1) Dispense the leaves.
2)Cortar las remolachas en cuadrados
2) Cut the beets into cubes
3) Colocar el fieltro en un bol y agregarle tanto vinagre como sea necesario para que resulté totalmente embebido.
3) Place the fleece in a bowl and add as much vinegar as needed to make it fully embedded.
4) Escurrir el fieltro colocando el vinagre en una cacerola apta para hornalla.
4) Drain the felt putting the vinegar in a pot suitable for stove.
5) Agregarle los cuadraditos de remolacha a la cacerola con vinagre.
5) Add beetroot cubes to vinegar pot.
6) Adicionarle sal gruesa (cantidad generosa).
6) Add coarse salt (generous amount)
7) Cocinar las remolachas en el vinagre a fuego lento.
De a poco va desprendiendo el color, evitar que el vinagre se evapore.
Una ves que consideramos que el color esta intenso retirarlas del fuego y dejarlo enfriar.
7) Cook the beetroot in vinegar to a simmer.
Gradually the color starts to peel, prevent the vinegar evaporates.
Once you consider that color gets intense remove from heat until its cool.
8) Colocar el vinagre frio en el fieltro usando un colador.
8) Place the cold vinegar on the fleece using a sieve.
9) Embeber el fieltro totalmente en el vinagre con la ayuda de la cuchara de madera.
10) Embedded completly in the vinegar with a wooden spoon the fleece.
10) Dejar el fieltro en el vinagre por 3 dias completos.
Para comprobar si el color ha tomado: cortar un poco de vellón y lavando intensamente con agua.
Si fuera necesario dejarlo más tiempo embebido a temperatura ambiente. No colocarlo nunca al fuego por que sino
el fieltro se encoje.
10) Leave the fleece in the vinegar for 3 days.
Check if it is dyed: cut a small piece of fleece and wash with water.
If is need it leave more time on vinegar. Never put the fleece on heat to prevent felt shrink.
11) Para finalizar enjuagar el fieltro con agua a temperatura ambiente y dejarlo secar colgado de un tender hasta que seque completamente y est&’eacute; listo para trabajar.
11) To finish: wash the fleece with ambient temperature water and leave it to dry totally on a clothesline until it’s ready to work.
12) Un rosa claro es el resultado de mi experiencia, no está nada mal! tal vez voy a preferirlo más intensa la próxima vez, voy a añadir más remolacha a la misma cantidad de vellón.
ATENCIÓN! Esto esta bien para trabajar el fieltro con aguja, no sé lo que sucede si se utiliza para hacer accesorios, zapatos o ropa, que hay que lavar de vez en cuando …
12)A light pink es what result of my experience, is not bad! maybe i’ll prefer more intense so next time I will add more beetroot to the same amount of fleece.
ATTENTION! This is good for needle felting, I dont’t what it happens if you used to make accesories, shoes, or clothes, that need to be wash once in a while…
